Anicee Lombal – Prony, South New-Caledonia

A population of Humpback whales (+/-500 individuals) migrates every year to the South of New-Caledonia in order to breed and give birth in warm waters. In June 2013, I joined the team of Operation Cetaces to observe the behaviour of this impressive marine mammal. Based on photo-IDs, we assessed the degree of faithfulness of individuals and the effective size of this population.
